Recognizing that an array of products is necessary to reach the
various audiences and their stages of involvement, we have produced
a variety of products this year and will continue to do so in Year
9. This year will see the production and distribution of:
 |
Brochures and one-page summaries of several of the FC core
competencies, including cooperative learning, teaming, and
technology use. These will help faculty members who know little
or nothing about the core competencies espoused by the FC
reach a point where they can begin to apply them and know
where to seek more in-depth information.

- Narratives on how curricular change actually happened on our
campuses. The volume of interviews and material that is being
generated is comparable to two learning histories on change in
the corporate world that have recently been published; this effort
promises to become one of the seminal efforts to study curricular
change in engineering education.
- Assessment and evaluation overviews, success stories, processes,
and materials
- Assessment instruments that test students' conceptual understanding
of engineering concepts in disciplines such as thermodynamics,
electromagnetics, and strength of materials. These instruments
will be unveiled in a special session at the 2001 Frontiers in
Education meeting. Field testing of these instruments at a greater
number of institutions will begin in year nine.
- Curriculum modules that fit into any upper-level engineering
course and that deal explicitly with one or more of the EC2000
"a-through-k" criteria. These will be presented to the community
through workshops at the Best Assessment Practices Symposium in
April and at the ASEE Annual Meeting in June.
- The FC Web site
has been extensively redesigned this year, which involved reviewing
over 6000 existing web pages to generate a common format for dissemination
of all FC information and philosophical perspectives. Materials
currently include streaming video, video instruction models, downloadable
copies of FC publications and brochures, online search capabilities,
online discussion forums and chat options, password-protected
areas, and survey/quizzing capabilities.
- Four CDs will be produced this year for distribution to various
audiences. Topics include:
 |
- General information on the FC
- Assessment and evaluation
- The core competencies of the FC
- Cooperative learning.
