Summary
In terms of the stress and body force distributions a detailed development of the conservation of angular momentum (COAM) for a continuum is given in cartesian coordinates for a three dimensional continuum system. It is demonstrated that in the absence of a body couple distribution COAM implies that the stress tensor is symmetric. An Example problem is given which illustrates this fact.
