Day 14

Day 14
Content:

Address questions regarding Assignment #13.

Review the concepts of centroids, centers of mass, and centers of gravity with emphasis
on the solution of problems involving composite bodies as discussed in R/S Chapter 5
(pp. 189-220).

Examples are presented in Worked Problem Set #14.
Skills/Objectives:

Calculate centroids, centers of mass, and centers of gravity for lines, areas, and solids
using composite area concepts.
Assessment:

Homework Set #14: Work problems 5-31, 34, 39, 51 and 54 (due on Day 15).
Resources:

R/S Chapter 5 (pp. 189-220).
Notes:

It is assumed that the students have received adequate instruction in the calculation of
centroids, centers of mass, and centers of gravity using integration techniques in Calculus
classes. Therefore, the homework and worked problems focus on composite body
solutions.
Advanced Organizers:

Read R/S Chapter 10 (pp. 584-595).
