Address questions regarding Assignment #14. |
|
Review the concept of mass moment of inertia by integration and through the use of |
composite body formulas and the parallel axis theorem as discussed in R/S Chapter 10 |
(pp. 584-595). |
|
Review the calculation of moments through the use of both cross products and scalar |
components, and briefly discuss the concept of the couple as presented in R/S Chapter 4 |
(pp. 125-136, 109-115, 148-154). |
|
Examples are presented in Worked Problem Set #15. |
Skills/Objectives: |
|
Calculate mass moments of inertia for composite bodies using the parallel axis theorem |
and calculate moments of forces about points. |
Assessment: |
|
Homework Set #15: 10-97, 98, 101 and 107 (due on Day 16). |
Resources: |
|
R/S Chapter 10 (pp. 584-595), R/S Chapter 4 (pp. 125-136, 109-115, 148-154). |
Notes: |
|
It is assumed that the students have received adequate instruction in the calculation of |
mass moments of inertia using integration techniques in Calculus classes. Therefore, the |
homework and worked problems focus on composite body solutions. |
|
The discussion on moments and couples should also be reviewed. |
