Review the treatment of forces including representing a force as a 3-D vector with |
rectanuglar components, representation of a force using direction cosines, representation |
of a force using slopes, representation of a force along a line from a point to point , |
and representation of a force using azimuth and elevation angles. This discussion is to be based |
on information presented in R/S Chapter 2 (pp. 33-77). |
|
Work a few examples of the resolution of a force into its components from R/S Chapter 2. |
|
Introduce the conservation of linear momentum based on information presented in |
Reference #4 and Glover Chapter 5 (pp. 105-124). The sign conventions to be used are |
described in Reference #4. Standard formats for COLM Finite Time and COLM Rate |
tables are introduced in Reference #4. |
Skills/Objectives: |
|
Manipulation of forces. |
Assessment: |
|
Homework Set #4: Work problems 2-58, 59, 78, 80, 83 and 85 (due on Day 5). |
Resources: |
|
R/S Chapter 2 (pp. 33-77), Reference #4, Glover Chapter 5 (pp. 105-124). |
Notes: |
|
The solution to each problem from this point on in this class MUST include a units table, |
all necessary system diagrams, all necessary conservation tables, and then the solution. |
|
It should also be noted that Glover Chapter 5 does not employ consistent units for |
problems presented in US units. |
Advanced Organizers: |
|
Read Reference #4 and Glover Chapter 5 (pp. 105-124). |
