Day 8

Day 8
Content:

Address questions regarding Assignment #7.

Review basic concepts associated with Coulomb friction. This information is presented
in R/S 9.1-9.2 (pp. 471-479). Reference #8 presents an outline of some of the important
concepts to be covered.

Example problems are presented in Worked Problem Set #8.
Skills/Objectives:

Solve COLM problems that involve Coulomb friction.
Assessment:

Homework Set #8: Work problems 9-1, 4, 5, 14, 15 and 15-3, 7, 17 and 22 (due on Day 9).
Resources:

R/S 9.1-9.2 (pp. 471-479), Reference #4, Glover Chapter 5 (pp. 105-124), Worked Problem Set #8.
Notes:

It is assumed that the discussion on Coulomb friction merely provides a review of
concepts that the students have already seen in Physics. Therefore, the material can be
covered much more quickly than would otherwise be the case. It is important for the student
to understand that the friction force is not always equal to $\mu$N.
Advanced Organizers:

Review R/S 9.1-9.2 (pp. 471-479).
