Abstract Engineering
faculty members have been talking much more about lifelong learning since Engineering
Criteria 2000 were published. How might the abilities of students for lifelong
learning be assessed? How might the abilities of students for lifelong learning
be developed? Research and instructional approaches for lifelong learning have
been published in connection with many topics, including self-regulated learning,
reflection, metacognition, and learning strategies. Workshop participants will
have opportunities to explore research on lifelong learning and develop instructional
approaches for encouraging lifelong learning in their classes. Learning
Objectives Workshop participants will - Describe the types of
behaviors that indicate that a person will continue to learn throughout her/his
life
- Describe the types of activities that instructors might devise to
develop abilities related to lifelong learning
- Describe the types of feedback
that instructors might offer to students to develop their abilities for lifelong
learning.
